We show our clients how to dramatically increase traffic and time on site in as little as 90 days. Sounds great but can you prove it? Yes, we can.
A few simple tweaks can improve your website
Last May we published the article User Experience – Learn How Simple Tweaks Can Improve Your Website. We got tons of exposure because we called out a major website because of their Log On user experience. The site actually changed their Log On to our suggested method. A lot of other sites saw the article’s spread and copied the title and some of the content.
This made us look at our own site. We made a few changes and then moved on.
Transform your business in 90 days
We began working on a new tag line in June of last year. We wanted a simple way of telling clients exactly what we can do for them. We came up with “Let Us Transform Your Business in 90 Days”. Quick, simple and to the point. We then created a call to action and linked it to Target Marketing A Proven Strategy for Growing Your Business. We know our customers are smart and would want proof. We wanted a new client to show exactly what we were up to.
The cobbler’s children have no shoes
This is the old story of how we work for other people before we work for ourselves. It’s kind of what we do. We get so excited about growing our client’s businesses that we tend to overlook ours. We decided to take ourselves on as our client. We used the exact strategy that we use for our clients. We knew we would have a lot more shareable data then most clients were willing to give to us.
The first step to increase traffic and time on site
We wanted to increase traffic and time on site without the use of paid traffic. We turned off all advertising so that the results would not be skewed.
We used our simple but effective strategy. We didn’t want to add additional content as we felt this may also skew the results. Instead, we began to optimize our existing content. We cleaned up our meta content and focused on the keywords used in our articles.
We then began to actually market our content. We began sharing our content in 10% of our social media posts. We have two social media streams that have about 31,000 Twitter followers and 5,000 or so on Facebook. Not a huge amount but enough. This step alone was enough to increase traffic and time on site.
The results were better than expected
We were happy with 2,000 or so unique visitors every month. I know that is pretty low, but it was enough for us to get the new clients we needed. In the first month we began to see an increase in traffic. This is exactly what was expected. At the end of one month we had doubled our traffic. We were now at about 4,000 uniques. When you double your traffic it really changes your leads and customer base. We were really curious if we would plateau. After the second month it had doubled again! We were now up to 8,000 unique visitors a month. Mission accomplished.
I’m very conservative when it comes to the reliability of stats. Was this just a fluke or something else contributing to our traffic? We know we have a sound strategy but you never know. We anxiously awaited April’s results. Would they fall off or at best level off?
Can you really double your traffic 3 months in a row?
Today we were able to confirm April’s traffic. For the past two months we saw an average time on site of about 13 minutes. That is phenomenal. The average time on site for April is now up to an incredible 19 minutes! So what about the traffic? It almost doubled again! Our site now has 15,000 unique visitors every month. All of the traffic is 100% organic. Even though we did no link building we are now up to 41% referrals. We knew our strategy was sound but we still didn’t expect these results.
It takes effort
No website is able to compete for attention without effort. You will have to work to accomplish these results. At this point, we are committing about an hour a day to writing content. You can also figure on spending a couple of hours a week promoting your content through social media.
With minimal effort you can double or even triple the amount of unique visitors your site receives every month. You will have to continue this strategy to maintain your ranking and traffic. Organic traffic is far more valuable than paid traffic. Unlike paid traffic, the results don’t go away.
